How does different colored construction paper affect the evaporation of water?
Specific Question
Does the color of construction paper affect evaporation rate of water?
Hypothesis
The cup with white paper under it will have the most amount of evaporation.
Graph of Hypothesis
Variables
Independent Variable:
Color of paper.
Dependent Variable:
Amount of evaporation.
Variables That Need To Be Controlled:
Size, thickness, amount of water, and the size of the bowl.
Vocabulary List That Needs Explanation:
Evaporation: A process in which a liquid is changed into vapor without reaching a boiling point.
General Plan
I will set up 10 cups of water. 2 of the cups will be covered with red construction paper. 2 more of the cups will be covered with green construction paper. 2 other cups will be covered with white construction paper. I will do my experiment at school because I have materials here that I can use. There is a wide space on the window sill which I can use to conduct this experiment. In my experiment, I will need two trials to complete this experiment.
Potential Problems And Solutions:
I could forget to record a days worth of data.
I could forget to make the graph of my results.
Safety Or Environmental Concerns:
Water cannot hurt you so there are no environmental concerns.
Experimental Design
(add the correct headings from the experimental design page before beginning)
1. Cover a plastic cup with red construction paper.
2. Cover another with yellow.
3. Cover another with black.
4. And another with white.
5. And last but not least, another one with green.
6. Fill each cup with 100ml of water.
7. Put by a windowsill.
8. Each day, pour the water into a graduated cylinder and measure how much is still in the cup.
9. Record your results on a piece of paper.
10. After you have gotten all of your results, graph them.

Conclusion
My question is... Does the color of construction paper affect the evaporation rate of water? My hypothesis was that the cup with white construction paper will be the cup that has the most evaporation. My hypothesis was incorrect because the green cup was the one that evaporated the most.
